Users of a digital postbox normally have the role ‘Viewer,’ which means that they can view and download files securely but cannot delete or edit them.
This role can be changed, and the provider can choose one of the below roles which their clients need to have:

| Admin | Full access, including creating, viewing, downloading, editing, and deleting files and editing members. |
| Editor | Same capabilities as admin, excluding editing members. |
| Viewer | Can view and download files. |
| Viewer Restricted | Can only view files. |
| Updater | Can view, download, edit, and delete files. |
| Archiver | Can create, view and download files, as well as archive files for long-term storage. |
Providers, such as banks, assign roles to clients based on their needs through the Postbox API.
